Test your endurance annual triathlon, duathlon

Cycling, running and swimming enthusiasts are invited to compete in the Schaumburg Park District's annual Splash, Pedal, Dash Triathlon and Dash, Pedal, Dash Duathlon.

Races begin at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, July 17, at Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way, with check-in, chip assignment, body marking and packet pickup starting at 5:15 a.m.

The triathlon consists of a 400-meter swim, 12.8-mile bike ride and 5K run. The duathlon consists of a 12.8-mile bike ride sandwiched between two 5K runs. Both races are chip-timed, include one transition area and end at Meineke Recreation Center. Multiple divisions are available for ages 15 and older.

"It's an exciting event, which attracts many local athletes and spectators," said Alyssa Danca, fitness supervisor for the Schaumburg Park District. "Because the swim portion takes place in a pool, this is a great triathlon for beginners."

All participants will receive a technical T-shirt and a custom finisher's medal.

"The medal is a great incentive for participants, and is a nice way to recognize everyone's effort." Danca said.

Registration deadline is Thursday, July 14. Cost is $65 for individuals registering through July 14. Participants must register at Active.com.

The event is sponsored by Amita Health and Dick Pond Athletics. For more information, call (847) 490-7015 or visit www.parkfun.com.
