Hammond brewery sweeps pro division at Indiana Brewers Cup

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A northwestern Indiana brewery has swept the professional division of the 18th Indiana Brewers' Cup competition at the Indiana State Fair.

The fair announced Tuesday that Hammond's Byway Brewing Co. won grand champion brewery of the year, Indiana brewery of the year, and best in show.

In the homebrew division, Thomas Wallbank of Zionsville was named Indiana homebrewer of the year. Wallbank is a member of the Foam Blowers of Indiana, which collectively won the title of homebrew club of the year. The homebrew category allows amateur brewers the chance to showcase their work in a competitive environment. It drew 850 entries this year.

The fair says the 2016 Indiana Brewers' Cup drew a total of 1,500 competitors from across the country last weekend.
