Naperville woman dies in Book Road crash

A crash on Book Road near Naperville claimed the life of 66-year-old Linda Engel of Naperville, authorities said Tuesday.

The Monday crash in an unincorporated area between 75th and 83rd streets injured two other people and required the road to be shut down for more than three hours.

A van carrying a large load of items in the back and a four-door sedan collided on a low-lying stretch of Book Road about 3:50 p.m., halfway between 75th and 83rd streets. The scene is along a hilly segment of Book, which travels north/south through Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve.

Engel was alone in her vehicle, according to the DuPage County sheriff's office, which is investigating the crash.

A man and a woman in the other vehicle were taken to hospitals with unknown injuries — the man to Edward Hospital in Naperville and the woman to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

Engel was pronounced dead at Edward Hospital.

After the crash, the vehicles rested in a ditch to the side of the road while the sheriff's office began to investigate.

The sheriff's office was not releasing any details of how the crash occurred Tuesday afternoon as the investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to call (630) 407-2400.
