Rockford launches new riverfront water t

ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) - Riverfront Museum Park in Rockford celebrated its 25th anniversary with an outdoor party and the launch of the Forest City Queen Riverboat from a new boat dock.

The Rockford Register Star reports (http://bit.ly/29vU1lw) the new dock will launch a seasonal water taxi on Tuesdays for pre-booked groups. It's an attempt to expand a water taxi service that will make stops at the new dock and other spots along the river beginning next year.

The Saturday anniversary celebration featured dancing, food and drinks.

The Park District Foundation raised $195,046 for the new dock. A $65,665 grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity helped pay for the project.

The park complex holds Discovery Center Museum, Rockford Art Museum, Rockford Symphony Orchestra, Rockford Dance Company and Northern Public Radio.
