Naperville fair connects art with worthy causes
The 57th annual Naperville Woman's Club Fine Art Fair offered a feast for the eyes, an inspiration for the creative and a way to fund food pantries and homeless veterans services - all during its two-day run this weekend at the Naper Settlement.
With so many pretty pieces and good causes woven in, it's no wonder the event has become the longest-running art fair in the state, organizers say.
Naperville residents Jan and Rick Hitchcock rode their bikes over to the settlement Sunday to spend a few hours viewing the art on display. Jan said she likes being able to view all types of artwork, including paintings, photography, pottery and jewelry.
More than 100 artists from across the nation displayed their work during the fair, showing, selling and presenting for judging creations in clay, fiber, glass, jewelry, mixed media, metal, painting, photography, sculpture and wood.
Members of the ClaySpace Ceramic Arts Center sold bowls as part of an "empty bowls" fundraiser for food pantries. Proceeds from the event will be donated mainly to the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans in Wheaton, along with other organizations the woman's club supports. Scholarships and social service agencies are among the other beneficiaries of the fair.
