Rounding up Saturday's races at Arlington

While longshot Chip Leader had the wire all to himself the first time past the finish in Saturday's Grade III $100,000 Stars and Stripes at Arlington International Racecourse, it was Michael Hui's Greengrassofyoming whose nose landed on the wire first when it mattered in a thrilling four-horse photo finish on Million Preview Day.

Settled well off of Chip Leader's early fractions of 25.29, 48.04 1:12.67 and 1:37.86, Greengrassofyoming made a steady advance on the final turn under Shaun Bridgmohan. He turned in a gritty final sixteenth to repel a trio of challengers.

Greengrassofyoming stopped the clock in 2:27.74 for the 1½-miles turf trip, hitting the wire a nose in front of O'Prado Ole, who in turn was a nose ahead of Pumpkin Rumble.

The defending Arlington Million champ and 1-2 wagering favorite The Pizza Man, was fourth, yet another nose back in fourth.

The 6-year-old son of Lasting Approval sat just off the leaders through the opening six furlongs, was guided outside on the turn by jockey Robby Albarado then made the lead entering the stretch and cleared the field under mild urging to win by 1¼ lengths in a final time of 1:55.62 for the 1 3/16 miles on the turf.

• T. B. Inc. and Hillerich Racing's One Mean Man improved upon his second-place finish in last month's Grade III Arlington Classic when storming from off the pace to capture the Grade III $125,000 American Derby for 3-year-olds.

Rated off the speed by Robby Albarado through early splits of 23.83, 48.88, 1:13.18 and 1:37.36, the son of Mizzen Mast was worked over near the rail from post nine.

He made a steady advance inside on the far turn and angled out in the stretch before asserting late to win by a half-length margin in a final time of 1:48.86 for a 1 1/8-miles turf trip.

• Flaxman Holdings' homebred Faufiler won the 60th running of the Grade III $125,000 Modesty Handicap. The Graham Motion trainee received a patient trip under Arlington's leading rider Jose Valdivia, Jr. in the opening stages.
