Pearson resigns from Arlington Heights library board

After more than 13 years as a trustee for the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, Kerry Pearson has resigned, leaving a vacancy on the board.

Pearson, who stepped down effective June 21, was first elected in April 2003. He served two six-year terms and was re-elected in 2015 for a third term that ends April 30, 2021. At different points during his service, Pearson was the library board's treasurer and later president. He could not be reached for comment Thursday, but library board President Deb Smart said he resigned for personal reasons.

According to a news release from the library, during Pearson's time the board hired three different executive directors and in 2012 approved a $2.8 million renovation project without increasing property taxes.

With Pearson's vacancy, the Arlington Heights Memorial Library is looking for a new trustee to serve in his spot until the general election in April 2017. Officials said they would prefer to appoint someone who is interested in running for the position in the next election.

Candidates must be Arlington Heights residents and submit letters of interest and resumes online or at the library. More information about the position's responsibilities and duties can be found at www.ahml.info/trustee.

The deadline to apply is July 15, after which the board will conduct final interviews. Smart said there already have been seven applicants for the job.
