Appeals court upholds 60-year sentence in sword death

MUNSTER, Ind. (AP) - The Indiana Court of Appeals has ruled that a northern Indiana man convicted of using a samurai sword to stab his brother to death in 2014 is not entitled to a reduction in his 60-year prison sentence.

The (Munster) Times reports (http://bit.ly/29rsmzo) the Court of Appeals ruled Wednesday that while 48-year-old Bradley Arndt of Trail Creek in LaPorte County has a long history of undiagnosed mental illness, including multiple visits by Adult Protective Services that resulted in no action, it did not find his sentence to be inappropriate.

Police said 54-year-old Thomas Arndt of Michigan City was found stabbed multiple times on the front lawn of a home in Trail Creek with the 40-45-inch sword stuck in the ground nearby. Trail Creek is a community 60 miles east of Chicago.
