Five injured in Aurora shootings over holiday weekend

Aurora police are investigating four separate shootings that left five people injured over the holiday weekend, police said in a news release Tuesday.

None of the injuries appear to be life-threatening, and it is unclear whether any of the shootings are related, according to police.

A 39-year-old Aurora woman was sitting with a 28-year-old Aurora man on a porch on the 500 block of Iowa Avenue at 3:22 a.m. Tuesday when at least one man approached them and opened fire. The woman was shot once in the leg and is being treated at an Aurora hospital.

The gunman is described as Hispanic, about 20 years old, with black hair and a stocky build, according to police.

About 40 minutes before the woman was shot, police responded to a call from a 21-year-old Aurora man who said he was shot near the intersection of North Avenue and Rosewood Avenue on the near east side. When police arrived, they found the victim walking in the area with a single gunshot wound to his upper body.

The victim told police he was walking west on North Avenue near Rosewood when a man who exited a vehicle approached him. The man asked the victim a gang-related question, which scared him, the victim told police. He was running away when he was shot.

Police said the victim was largely uncooperative, and the man could provide no further information on the shooting. Around 10:45 p.m. Monday, police responded to a person shot on the 1300 block of Grand Boulevard on the near east side. Before officers arrived, they learned two 32-year-old Aurora residents, one man and one woman, were being taken to an Aurora hospital for their wounds.

At the hospital, the man and woman told officers they were sitting in their parked car on Calhoun Street just south of Grand Boulevard when a silver SUV with tinted windows pulled up next to them and someone in the vehicle opened fire. The man flagged down a passer-by who took the pair to the hospital.

The man was treated and released for a gunshot wound to his chest and the woman was admitted for a gunshot wound to her neck, according to police.

A 19-year-old Aurora man was shot in the leg Saturday around 2:30 a.m. while he was sitting with several people around a backyard bonfire on the 300 block of Grant Place on the near east side, according to police.

Two people walked up a driveway and opened fire while standing behind a vehicle, police said. The shooters then ran from the area.

The shooting victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.
