Illinois to get $17 million for HIV assistance programs

WASHINGTON (AP) - The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is sending more than $17 million to Illinois for HIV assistance programs.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin said Thursday that the funding is being awarded through the Ryan White Care Act Part B. It will allow the state's Department of Health to provide comprehensive medical care and support services for people who are HIV positive or have AIDS.

The grant program funds services such as grant include AIDS drug assistance, hospice care, mental health services, outpatient substance abuse care and oral health care.
