Old State Capitol in Springfield hosts outdoor yoga classes

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Outdoor yoga classes will take place on the east lawn of the Old State Capitol in Springfield again this summer.

Instructor Claire Benoit and the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency are offering the 45-minute classes on Wednesday evenings starting next week. A suggested donation of $5 will go to the Old State Capitol Foundation.

Class starts at 5:15 p.m. The weekly class will continue through Sept. 28. The class will focus on breath and alignment-based poses for people of all experience levels.

On rainy or extremely hot days, the yoga class will meet in Foundation Hall, immediately under the Old State Capitol.

The site is operated by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, which protects the state's historic resources.
