Many say political opponents frighten them, threaten country

NEW YORK (AP) - A new poll is showing political acrimony hitting historic highs.

The Pew Research Center survey out Wednesday shows a majority of Democrats and Republicans hold very unfavorable views of the opposing party, the first time since the nonpartisan organization began probing the issue in 1994.

Around half of people on both sides of the aisle said things had gotten so bad the opposing political party made them afraid, and sizeable minorities on both sides said the other party's policies are so misguided they threaten the country's well-being.

The negativity isn't reserved just for political adversaries. Few on either side said their own party made them enthusiastic or proud.
