Mount Prospect apartment fire leaves one family displaced

One family was displaced yesterday evening after a fire left their Mount Prospect apartment uninhabitable, fire officials said. At 7:13 p.m., Mount Prospect fire crews responded to reports of a fire at Mount Prospect Greens Apartments on West Algonquin Road, Battalion Chief Aaron Grandgeorge said. No injuries were reported. Geneva man, 73, dies following crash in Campton Hills

A 73-year-old Geneva man died Saturday from injuries suffered in a three-vehicle crash on Route 64 in Campton Hills, police said. Stephen Sikorsky was behind the wheel of his 1941 Lincoln Zephyr stopped in a westbound lane waiting to turn left into The Lodge on 64 at 5:25 p.m. Friday when a Jeep Wrangler struck his car from behind, according to Campton Hills police. Two critically injured after car plunges into Aurora pond

Two men were in critical condition yesterday after a car in which they were riding plunged into a retention pond on the west side of Aurora and flipped onto its roof, trapping them inside until a fire department dive team could pull them out, Aurora police said. Full story.

Rosemont unveils statue of founding Mayor Donald E. Stephens

Everything about the larger-than-life statue of late Rosemont Mayor Donald E. Stephens, even down to the shoes and pattern on the shirt, is a replica of the man who led the village for 51 years. The 1,500-pound bronze-cast statue was unveiled yesterday outside Rosemont Village Hall. The significance of the Father's Day debut of the statue, which stands eight feet tall and eight feet wide, was not lost on those who attended the ceremony. Full story.

White Sox swept out of Cleveland after 3-2 loss in 10

After starting this season 23-10, the White Sox are heading in the opposite direction. Swept yesterday by the Cleveland Indians on Jose Ramirez's bad-hop, walk-off single in the 10th inning against closer David Robertson (0-1), the White Sox have lost 26 of their last 36 games. Cleveland Cavaliers win NBA Finals

LeBron James and his relentless, never-count-them-out Cavaliers pulled off an improbable NBA Finals comeback last night, and Cleveland is title town again at long last. James delivered on a promise from two years ago to bring a championship to his native northeast Ohio, and he and the Cavs became the first team to rally from a 3-1 finals deficit by beating the defending champion Golden State Warriors 93-89 to end a 52-year major sports championship drought in Cleveland.
