Schaumburg Solstice Hop & Vine Fest returns Saturday

Indulge in some of the best food, wine and beer the suburbs have to offer this weekend while giving underprivileged kids a chance to take part in recreational and other opportunities at the Schaumburg Park Foundation's annual Solstice Hop & Vine Fest.

The fest, which takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, will be held at Meineke Park, 220 E. Weathersfield Way. The traditional venue, Spring Valley Nature Center, is unavailable due to an ongoing construction project.

Tickets for the event are $30, which helps support recreation scholarships and other parks foundation projects. They can only be purchased online at www.parkfun.com/solstice2016.

The fest will feature live music by The Ken Slauf Band and food from Chandler's Chophouse, Moretti's Ristorante and Pizzeria, Riccardo's Ristorante, Granite City and Costco.

The selection of participating wineries is led by Lynfred, the event's host winery. Other wineries and breweries taking part include Black Belt Brewery, Granite City Brewery and Restaurant, Church Street Brewing Company, Cooper's Hawk Winery and Restaurants, Noon Whistle Brewing, Pinstripes, Ram Restaurant and Brewery, Village Vintner Winery, Brewery and Restaurant, and Wild Blossom Meadery and Winery.

Fest admission includes a commemorative wine or beer glass. Package sales also are available on-site, giving attendees a chance to take home their favorites.

The event is held rain or shine. Guests must be 21 and older to attend, and a valid ID is required.

Free parking will be available at James B. Conant High School, 700 E Cougar Trail, Hoffman Estates, with complimentary shuttle service to the fest grounds.

Due to the outdoor event venue, conservative footwear is recommended. For more information, call (847) 985-2115 or visit www.schaumburgparkfoundation.org.
