North Shore Community Health Center Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary

The North Shore Health Center (NSHC) is proud to celebrate their 10th anniversary of serving uninsured and under-insured families of the Highwood and Highland Park area. Thanks to their public-private partnership with Friends for Health (FFH), the North Shore Health Center has been able to provide affordable, quality medical and dental care to more than 19,000 patients.

Since 2006, NSHC has expanded its services to include a variety of educational programs and community volunteer opportunities, made possible by their partnership with FFH. Some of the major programs that have come through the work of FFH are a complete Diabetes Prevention and Treatment program, an enhanced Women's Health program focused on uninsured women, and the Moraine Township Food Pantry Garden Plot Project, which allows patients and their families to grow and share their produce with the community. Together, NSHC and FFH are able to provide medical and wellness support for all families in the community, regardless of their ability to pay.

This story would not be complete without mentioning the major role that the Healthcare Foundation of Highland Park (HFHP) has played in the success of NSHC, as well as the support of all of their generous donors. With an initial contribution to the capital campaign, HFHP put FFH over the top to reach their goal of $600,000. Since then, every year FFH has received a substantial grant from the HFHP that has enabled many of the services conceived by FFH to be a reality.

"We are proud to have been serving the community for more than 10 years," says Holly Kerr, Chair of Philanthropy at FFH. "We believe that when someone is healed physically, it opens the door for more positive life changes. We are dedicated to providing the care and services that help families in need lead happier and healthier lives"

The public is invited to support FFH by participating in their online auction at http://friendsforhealth2016.eflea.ca, opening on June 26th at 10 a.m. and closing on July 1st at 8 p.m.
