No one hurt in Vernon Hills car fire

Nobody was injured when an SUV caught fire while driving in Vernon Hills Monday afternoon, fire officials said.

Countryside Fire Protection District responded to the call at 3:30 p.m. on a frontage road near Route 21 and Hollister Parkway, Battalion Chief Tony DeRose said.

"She was driving down the road and something happened," DeRose said. "She pulled off Milwaukee Avenue onto a side street. When we got there, it was a fully involved SUV."

The woman, who was traveling alone, wasn't injured. Southbound Milwaukee Avenue was closed for about five minutes while firefighters sprayed 300 gallons of water onto the vehicle, DeRose said.
