Paramount announces comedy, music shows

Having unveiled its upcoming Broadway series earlier this year, the award-winning Paramount Theatre on Monday announced the remainder of its 2016-2017 season.

The season includes Second City shows and appearances by Engelbert Humperdinck, Billy Gardell, Priscilla Presley and others.

It launches Aug. 19 with the annual fundraiser season kickoff party, which takes place in the new Meyer Ballroom across the street from the theater. The party is followed by the Happy Together concert featuring pop performers from the 1960s and 1970s. Acts scheduled to perform include: Gary Puckett & the Union Gap, The Grassroots, Mark Lindsay form Paul Revere & the Raiders, The Cowsills, Flo and Eddie from The Turtles and Chuck Negron from Three Dog Night, among others.

Priscilla Presley will appear on Aug. 21.

The Second City brings its show "Free Speech! (While Supplies Last)" to the theater Aug. 27 and returns to the Copley Theatre Dec. 2 with its "Nut-Cracking Holiday Revue."

"Mamma Mia" opens the Broadway series Sept. 7 to Oct. 30 followed by the Ballet Folklorico Quetzalcoatl (Nov. 4), Engelbert Humperdinck (Nov. 5), the doo-wop group Under The Streetlamp (Nov. 6), Billy Gardell (Nov. 12) and humorist Garrison Keillor (Nov. 13).

2017 productions include "Defending the Caveman" (Jan. 20) and Queen tribute band God Save The Queen (Jan. 21). Other tribute shows are "Piano Men: A tribute to Elton John and Billy Joel" on June 10, 2017, and "Barbra and Frank: The Concert that Never Was" saluting Streisand and Sinatra on June 11, 2017.

Spring also brings Home Free (March 24), Madeleine Peyroux and Rickie Lee Jones (March 25) and Golden Dragon Acrobats (March 26). "Riverdance" comes to the Paramount March 31 for five shows.

The lineup also includes children's shows and the $1 Classic Movie Monday series.
