Create a rock collection box at 'Thoreau for Kids' program

Children and parents are invited to do activities from the book, "Henry David Thoreau for Kids: His Life and Ideas, with 21 Activities," from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, at Creek Bend Nature Center in LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W700 Dean St., St. Charles.

Author Corinne H. Smith will demonstrate an easy project - making a rock collection box from a shoe box and cardboard. Thoreau made his out of wood, but you will have fun recycling and repurposing common material. The boxes and cardboard will be supplied. You can bring along rocks you've already found. Books will be available for purchase.

Registration is $10 per family. Advance registration is required. Call (630) 444-3190 or email programs@kaneforest.com to register.
