Attend a travelogue of Thoreau's journey along the Fox River

Learn about American author and naturalist Henry David Thoreau, and his famous journey along the Fox River, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16, at Creek Bend Nature Center in St. Charles.

Thoreau traveled through northern Illinois and the Midwest in the spring of 1861, during which time he wrote about scores of native plants and wildlife. Thoreau scholar and former Elgin High School librarian Corinne H. Smith will lead an evening travelogue of the famous transcendentalist's last and longest journey.

Smith will describe Thoreau's routes, the sights he saw and documented, and what you can see in those same places today - more than 150 years later. Copies of Smith's book, "Westward I Go Free: Tracing Thoreau's Last Journey," will be available for purchase and signing.
