NBA Referees union seeks end of Last 2 Minute reports

NEW YORK (AP) - NBA referees are calling for the end of the league's Last 2 Minute reports that rule if calls were correct.

The National Basketball Referees Association said in its statement Tuesday that the reports cause "more harm than good for the officials and the game."

The league issues the reports following all games that are within five points at the 2-minute mark. The reports assess all whistles and notable non-calls, with Commissioner Adam Silver saying the reports are necessary to be fully transparent.

But the union says that "transparency encourages anger and hostility towards NBA officials." It said if the league won't abolish the reports, it must reform the process, questioning the credentials of those writing and editing them.

"Only people with extensive officiating experience should be in a position to review on-court decisions," the statement said.
