Metropolis announces additions to 2016-17 season

The Metropolis Performing Arts Centre in Arlington Heights announced several additions to its 2016-2017 season, including the return of The Second City and a holiday favorite performed in the style of a 1940s radio play. "It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play," a version of Frank Capra's beloved film done in the style of a 1940s radio broadcast, replaces Metropolis' annual production of "A Christmas Carol." The show runs from Nov. 25 through Dec. 27. That's followed by The Second City's "Holidazed," a sendup of all things Christmas, which runs Dec. 28 through 31.

In other holiday programming, Metropolis presents concerts by The Lakeside Singers (Dec. 5), Will and Anthony Nunziata, who combine Broadway hits with seasonal songs (Dec. 6), and Christmas with the Celts (Dec. 13), comprised of holiday carols, Irish music and dancing.

Mike Toomey returns Sept. 16 with "TV and Me," his nostalgic look at how 1960s and 1970s television inspired Baby Boomers' lives. Comedian Rocky LaPorte headlines the theater on Dec. 12.

The Matt Kowalski Quartet headlines a free Nov. 11 Veterans Day concert, and pianist/composer George Winston returns Dec. 19. The Eagles tribute band Heartache Tonight performs April 1, 2017, followed by Chicago singer Sam Fazio's tribute to Frank Sinatra on April 2, 2017.

Performances take place at 111 W. Campbell St., Arlington Heights. Tickets range from $15 to $60. They're available at the box office, online at metropolisarts.com or by phone (847) 577-2121.
