Big Ange's opens in Arlington Heights

More than three years after receiving village approval, Big Ange's Eatery opened its doors to customers on Thursday in Arlington Heights.

The restaurant, which specializes in hot dogs, sandwiches, fresh-cut fries and a variety of flavors of Italian ice, opened in the former Jimmy's Place on the corner of Northwest Highway and Euclid Avenue.

Owners John and Angie Fridono said it took a little longer than they hoped to renovate and open the new restaurant, but were happy to work the cashier counter on Thursday for the line of customers waiting to try their menu. Their son, Rocco, who will run the restaurant, was also behind the counter helping cooks get through the first day.

Jimmy's Place was an Arlington Heights institution for more than 50 years before it closed in 2011.
