Spas, salons offer service June 7 to cancer survivors

The 13th annual Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day is set for Tuesday, June 7, in Highland Park.

Established in 2003 by Highland Park resident Barbara Paget, it has evolved into an annual nationwide event. In every state, beauty, spa and related businesses offer free services to cancer survivors, regardless of their type of cancer or when they were diagnosed.

"It can be a special time for survivors - including men, women and children - to meet and offer support to each other," Paget said. "It is also a very rewarding experience for the volunteers to know they have done something special to help those in need in our community."

To showcase this special event, First Bank of Highland Park has had an exhibition throughout May on their Ruth Fell Wander Community Art Wall. The wall displays the complimentary services that local businesses will offer to cancer survivors.

The overwhelming response from local businesses that agreed to participate wasn't a surprise to President/CEO of First Bank of Highland Park, Randy Green.

"We are proud to be part of a community that continually shows compassion and generosity to others," Green said. "Highland Park has always been a very caring community."
