John Ortinau, EMS Medical Director at NCH, honored by Illinois College of Emergency Physicians

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (May 31, 2016) - John M. Ortinau, M.D., FACEP, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medical Director at Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH), recently received the Illinois College of Emergency Physicians (ICEP) Meritorious Service Award for "significant contributions to the advancement of emergency medicine by exemplary service."

Dr. Ortinau, who became EMS Medical Director at NCH in 1997, plans to retire at the end of 2016 after a stellar career in providing out-of-hospital care as EMS Medical Director of the Northwest Community Emergency Medical Services System (NWC EMS). The NWC EMS consists of 25 EMS agencies employing 1,300 emergency medical technicians and paramedics who provide care to citizens in the Northwest suburbs under Dr. Ortinau's leadership.

Dr. Ortinau has been a member of ICEP since its inception in 1977 and has served on the board of directors from 1993 through 2001 and as president from 1999 through 2000. He is a longtime member of the EMS committee and has served as the committee chair since 2014.
