Softball: Hampshire, Kaneland snare 3A regional titles

Peyton De Chant went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI Saturday and Joslyn Nelson threw a 4-hitter as Hampshire defeated Johnsburg 4-1 for the Class 3A Hampshire softball championship.

It's the Whip-Purs' first regional title since 2008. They will play Sterling on Wednesday at the Genoa-Kingston sectional.

Melissa Esparza added a 2-run double for Hampshire (19-16) in Saturday's win.

Kaneland 10, Fenwick 4: Meg Cohrs (3 hits, 4 RBI) cracked 2 home runs and Morgan Weber hit a 2-run homer as Kaneland (22-14) won its own Class 3A regional title. The Knights, who finished third at state last season, won their second straight regional. They will play Montini on Tuesday at the Glenbard South sectional. In Saturday's win, adding to Kaneland's 13-hit attack were Lexi Abruzzo (2 doubles), Aly Jesiniowski (3B), Courtney Davis (3 hits, 2B, RBI) and Katie Kurzrock (2 hits, RBI). Davis got the complete game win in the circle, allowing 8 hits with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks.

Barrington 3, CL South 0: Sam Schetti had 2 of Crystal Lake South's 4 hits as the Gators (14-13) fell in the title game of the Class 4A Dundee-Crown regional. Christina Toniolo suffered the loss in the circle, allowing 7 hits with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Glenbard South 4, ACC 2: Danielle Brown had 2 doubles and drove in both of Aurora Central's runs in the championship game of the Class 3A ACC regional. Brown was also the losing pitcher despite striking out 11. She allowed 8 hits and 3 walks. The Chargers finished the season 15-15.
