Softball: Fifteen straight regional titles for Barrington

After wins earlier in the day by Conant, Elk Grove and Hersey, Barrington became the fourth Mid-Suburban League softball team to win a regional championship.

The Fillies had a 2 p.m. start in Carpentersville on Saturday and wrapped up their 20th regional crown in school history with a 3-0 shutout over Crystal Lake South at the Class 4A Dundee-Crown championship.

In the process, the Fillies became only the 14th team out of 628 who competed in the IHSA this season to win 20 regionals, including 15 in a row under coach Perry Peterson.

Elk Grove, under coach Ken Grams, became the 13th earlier in the day when it won the Larkin regional.

By winning its 30th straight regional game since 2002, the Fillies improved to 27-7 and will face Huntley in Tuesday's 4:30 p.m. semifinal of the Belvidere North sectional.

Sophomore Catherine McMahon (22-6) threw a 4-hitter and owned the 3-run cushion after one inning.

The Fillies began the bottom of the first with a single by Carly Kordich, a walk to Kelly Katis and another single up the middle by Rachel Macdonald.

With the bases loaded, Rachel Krzysko's sacrifice fly drove home Kordich for the 1-0 lead.

No. 5 hitter Liz Sweeney then singled to left, scoring Katis and Katis and Macdonald for the 3-0 advantage.

Haley Luczak was the Fillies' only multiple hitter. The junior went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles while Jamie Brown and Abbey Jacobsen also had hits for Barrington.

Antioch 17, St. Viator 2 (5 inn): Haley Robinson (double) and Catherine Hafner each had 2 hits for No. 7 seeded St. Viator (12-21) which fell to No. 2 Antioch in the Lions own Class 3A regional final in Arlington Heights.
