Baseball: Libby pitches Grant past McHenry
In Class 4A regional final play at Cary-Grove, Grant topped McHenry 7-3 on Saturday as winning pitcher Bryan Libby moved to 10-1 on the mound. He went the distance and had 3 strikeouts.
James Pendley, Ricky Allen and Shawn Riley each had 2 hits for the Bulldogs. Pendley drove in 2 runs.
Grant advances to a 4 p.m. Thursday matchup against Jacobs in the Huntley sectional semifinals.
Wauconda 7, Johnsburg 3: Wauconda pounded out 4 home runs to win its own Class 3A regional title.
Trevor Sefcik had 2 home runs and Collin Shrader and Brian Mcfarlin each had a home run.
Korey Soetart was the winning pitcher with 4 strikeouts and no walks in six innings and Kevin Malisheski got the save.
The Bulldogs will meet sectional host St. Viator in a 4 p.m. Wednesday semifinal.
Lakes 7, Richmond-Burton 3: Lakes won its own Class 3A regional, its third regional title in school history.
Max Swiatek led the way with 2 hits, both doubles. Winning pitcher Jack Christensen rolled up 4 strikeouts over five innings and moved to 5-3 on the mound.
Lakes improves to 18-14-1 on the season and will meet Carmel at 4 p.m. Thursday in a sectional semifinal matchup at St. Viator.
Prospect 6, Lake Zurich 3: At Glenbrook North in a Class 4A regional semifinal, Lake Zurich got out to a 2-0 lead through two innings, but couldn't ride that momentum to a win.
Nick Sanders had 2 hits and Austin Wells had a double for the Bears.
Prospect advances to a 10 a.m. Monday matchup against Glenbrook North for the regional title.
St. Viator 13, Antioch 2: Ben Gutke had 2 hits as Antioch fell short in the Marian Central Class 3A regional championship game. Earlier in the day, the Sequoits topped Woodstock North 3-1 to earn their title-game appearance.
