Balmoral Park to re-open to horses for jumping competition

CRETE, Ill. (AP) - Historic Balmoral Park will host horse-jumping events under new ownership starting next spring.

The (Tinley Park) Daily Southtown reports (http://trib.in/1sTasfK ) that Horse Shows in the Sun, a New York company, completed the purchase this week of the 200-acre site. Officials say they plan a significant investment to get it ready for competition.

Balmoral Park hosted harness races for decades until last year.

Horse Shows in the Sun President and Chief Executive Tom Struzzieri says there could be up to 14 shows a year.

The company bought Balmoral for $1.6 million. Officials would not specify the amount of money they'll spend on upgrades.

The company produces jumping events across the United States, including in Florida, California, Virginia and its home in Saugerties, New York.
