Teen shot while inside car in Aurora Township

An 18-year-old man was airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood after he was hit several times early Saturday morning when someone began shooting at a vehicle on Route 30 in unincorporated Aurora Township, authorities said. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Deputies are investigating whether the shooting is gang related, Kane County Sheriff's Lt. Patrick Gengler said in a news release.

About 2:55 a.m., four men in a car traveling south on Route 31 noticed another vehicle began to follow them, the sheriff's office said.

When the victim's vehicle turned to head west on Route 30, someone from the vehicle that was following them started shooting, the sheriff's office said.

One of the four people in the front car, an 18-year-old man, was hit several times, the sheriff's office said. The other three people were not injured.

After the shooting, the vehicle was driven to a residence in Montgomery. From there, the injured man then was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora and later flown to Loyola.

Deputies do not yet have any description of a suspect or suspects, the sheriff's office said.
