US adds Castillo to roster after Chandler injury

CHICAGO (AP) - The U.S. national team has added Edgar Castillo to the roster for the Copa America Centenario next month.

The Monterrey defender replaces Timmy Chandler, who has a right quadriceps strain. Castillo is expected to join the team in training camp following the second leg of the Liga MX final on Sunday.

Castillo has 18 appearances with the U.S. team, including starts in the past two World Cup qualifying matches.

Tournament rules say an injured player can be replaced up to 24 hours before a team's first match, but the player must come from the team's preliminary 40-player roster, which was submitted in April.

The U.S. team will play Bolivia on Saturday in Kansas City, Kansas, in a final warm-up for the Copa America. The United States opens the 16-nation tournament on June 3 against Colombia in Santa Clara, California.
