Arlington Heights students go to work in village's downtown

More than 80 fifth grade students from Windsor Elementary School went to work Wednesday at businesses around Arlington Heights.

The annual "World of Work" program, sponsored by Windsor's PTA, allowed students to pick a type of job they wanted to experience and work a two-hour shift at one of more than 30 participating businesses and organizations in downtown Arlington Heights.

Some served food at places like Peggy Kinnane's Irish Restaurant & Pub, while others helps ring up customers at Runner's Hi 'n' Tri down the street. Other participating organizations included the Arlington Heights library, police, fire and public works departments, and dozens of businesses near downtown.

"This is an exciting day for our students. They can apply many of the concepts taught at school as they work," said Windsor Principal Shelley Fabrizio. "We are so grateful to the Arlington Heights businesses who support this endeavor."
