Anderson's offers summer literary camps for grades k-12

New summer camp/literary opportunities for students entering kindergarten through 12th grades are being offered by Anderson's Bookshops. The popular Camp Divergent and Camp Teen All-Access return, while camp opportunities are expanding to younger readers. All camp sessions are five days.

Camp Divergent's impetus is the popular Divergent young adult series of books by Veronica Roth, which have sold more than 10 million copies. Campers will be immersed in the pages of "Divergent" (2011), "Insurgent" (2012), and "Allegiant" (2013).

Designed for students going into sixth through 12th grades, Camp Divergent will focus on one the trilogy's five "factions" each day and activities will highlight related traits, bringing the books to life. Activities will include carillon climbing, author visits, penny whistle playing, lie detector tests, scavenger hunts, and a choosing ceremony on the last day.

The camp will meet 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. the week of July 18 at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville.

Camp Teen All-Access will feature a different genre of young adult fiction each day with targeted activities. The camp is for teen readers who want to get to know other teen readers and share their love of books. Activities include a live-action game of Clue, author visits, and literary crafts and games based on some of campers' favorite books.

Camp Teen All-Access will meet 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday, June 27 to July 1, at North Central College, and again the week of Aug. 8 at Naper Settlement.
