Baseball: Warren, Carmel win postseason tuneups

Luke Schmitt was 3-for-3 with a double and 4 RBI, and Warren's baseball team beat McHenry 13-3 on Tuesday in advance of its Class 4A state tournament opener.

Ryan Davila was 2-for-2 for Warren (25-10), which is the top seed in the Stevenson sectional complex and plays No. 16 Hersey in the Warren regional semifinals at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Matt Burch and Eric Ripley also had doubles for the Blue Devils.

Carmel 7, Fremd 6: Cooper Johnson homered for the Corsairs, who open Class 3A state tournament action at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday against No. 14 Woodstock in the Vernon Hills regional.

Winning-pitcher Joey Lake was 3-for-3 for Carmel (21-9), while Austin Ehren and Eddie Pietschmann were both 2-for-3. Lake, Pietschmann and Matt Collins all doubled, and Joe Santoro tripled.
