Investigation continues into Naperville apartment fire

Fire investigators are expected to return to a 16-unit two-story apartment building in Naperville heavily damaged overnight by fire, officials said.

Officials said crews have been out through the night putting out hot spots that have flared up.

Fire investigators plan to return to the scene on the 800 block of Beaumont Drive this morning and start looking for a cause, Naperville Fire Division Chief Andy Dina said.

He said gas and water have been shut off to the complex. An exact number of people displaced because of the fire is unknown.

Firefighters were called at 8:10 p.m. for an activated fire alarm and reports of smoke, Naperville fire officials said in a release.

They arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the building and heavy fire in a rear, second-floor apartment. Residents were all able to evacuate the building themselves, and nobody was injured.

Numerous second-floor apartments were damaged by fire, which caused moderate smoke staining throughout the building. The entire building was deemed uninhabitable.

Warrenville, Wheaton, Lisle Woodridge, Winfield, Bolingbrook, Downers Grove, Plainfield, Aurora, and Lombard fire departments all assisted.
