Injured Varane expected to miss Champions League final

MADRID (AP) - Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane is expected to miss the Champions League final because of a muscle injury.

The club said that tests on Sunday showed that the French player has a "grade 2 injury" in his left thigh muscle.

Madrid said Varane's "recovery will continue to be assessed," but he is likely to be sidelined for about three weeks because of the ailment.

Madrid will try to win its 11th Champions League title when it plays crosstown rival Atletico Madrid next Saturday in Milan.

Varane had not been starting for coach Zinedine Zidane, who has relied on defenders Sergio Ramos and Pepe.
