Kitchen fire leaves Naperville house uninhabitable

A Naperville family avoided injury when the stove in their kitchen caught fire Thursday evening, authorities said.

The house on the 1100 block of Royal St. George Drive has been deemed uninhabitable after sustaining fire damage to the kitchen and moderate smoke staining throughout the interior, the Naperville Fire Department said in a news release.

Firefighters extinguished the fire 10 minutes after arriving to respond to a woman's 8:16 p.m. call that her stove was on fire.

Twenty-six firefighters responded to find and extinguish the fire in the two-story house, determine that everyone in the house escaped safely, begin salvage and overhaul work and ensure there were no hidden hot spots.

No one was injured in the fire or the response, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters from Lisle-Woodridge, Warrenville and Wheaton covered Naperville stations while crews were at the scene.
