Art exhibit features Stevenson student

The work of a Stevenson High School student will be featured Sunday, May 22 in an art exhibit in Lincolnshire.

Deborah Meirelles' "Contrast" exhibit, which is hosted Artenika Gallery, is set for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Artenika founder, Natasha Plyam said in a news release. It will be held at the studio, 175 Olde Half Day Road, Lincolnshire.

The exhibit is being presented in collaboration with the Justice Conference. Proceeds from the sales will go to the conference, which is set for June 3-4 at Park Community Church, 1001 N. Crosby, Chicago.

Plyam called Meirelles a "gifted young artist" whose main medium is ink on paper. She said Artenika is presenting Meirelles' solo exhibit "to raise awareness of issues such as race, poverty and violence."

Meirelles, 17, of Long Grove, is a senior at Stevenson who has been accepted to study at the top five art schools in the world, according to the news release.
