Wrestling: Buhr to lead Wauconda's program

Wauconda has named Mike Buhr as its new head wrestling coach.

Buhr will take over the program from Tom Nance, who retired after 32 years as head coach. A native of Crystal Lake and a 2008 graduate of Crystal Lake Central, Buhr has been the head wrestling coach at Cary-Grove since 2015. During his time at Cary-Grove, Buhr coached 4 Class 3A sectional qualifiers and 1 state qualifier. Prior to his arrival at Cary-Grove, he spent two seasons as an assistant wrestling coach at New Trier.

Buhr attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, where he was a four-year varsity letter winner in wrestling. He was a two-time NCAA DIII academic All-American, an NCAA DIII national qualifier and a team co-captain.

"We're thrilled to welcome Mike into the Wauconda High School family," Wauconda athletic director Andrew Lambert said. "He has a tremendous pedigree as a wrestling coach and will be an outstanding leader for our wrestling program and a mentor for our student-athletes. After a thorough and comprehensive search process, there is no doubt he is a perfect fit for our school and our wrestling program."
