Illinois Supreme Court to hold session in suburban Chicago

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The Illinois Supreme Court is holding a special evening session in Springfield, followed by oral arguments at a suburban Chicago university.

The court has invited the entire General Assembly and Gov. Bruce Rauner to attend Tuesday night's arguments at the Illinois Supreme Court building.

Chief Justice Rita Garman says the session offers lawmakers "a window into the work that the court performs for the people we all serve." The case involves a man convicted in a 2010 shooting.

On Thursday, the court will hold a session at Benedictine University in the Chicago suburb of Lisle. Students from across DuPage County have been invited to attend.

Garman says the goal is to be educational and more transparent.

It's rare for the court to hold session outside of Springfield or Chicago.
