Harper College student charity fashion show May 20

The idea of change - changing form, texture and appearance - will be at the heart of Harper College's Student Fashion Show, a professional-caliber production showcasing students' original work and designs.

The show, "Metamorphosis," will run at both 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday, May 20, in the Performing Arts Center on the college's main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine.

"It's really about evolution," said Nupur Sharma, Fashion Studies and Merchandising Program coordinator. "Evolution of the garments, of the students and of their two years here at Harper."

Sharma estimates about 150 garments will hit the runway, all of which have to be selected by a jury of nine industry professionals. Students receive rigorous feedback from the jury and have just two weeks to tweak their garments before the show.

"It's really an amazing transformation considering many students come in with little-to-no sewing experience," Sharma said.

Every aspect of the fashion show is student-run. Tricoci University students provide hair and makeup. Proceeds benefit the Little City Foundation in Palatine.

Tickets to the 1 p.m. show are $10 for adults and $5 for students and children under 18. Tickets to the 8 p.m. show are $25 for adults and $20 for students with ID; a $50 VIP package includes two drinks and appetizers an hour beforehand.

For tickets, contact the Harper College Box Office at (847) 925-6100 or harpercollege.edu/boxoffice. For more information about the Fashion Design and Merchandising programs, call 847.925.6788.
