Lake County sheriff reports 5 hospitalized after overdosing

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) - Authorities in Lake County say five people have been hospitalized after appearing to overdose on an unknown substance.

The Lake County sheriff's office said in a Sunday news release that all five are expected to survive. They were identified as four men and a woman between the ages of 18 and 20.

Deputies found the individuals Saturday night at a home in unincorporated Lake County. Deputies administered doses of naloxone, which is an anti-overdose drug, to two unconscious people around 11 p.m.

Nationally, there's been a growing toll from the misuse of both addictive pain-killing narcotics and heroin

The Chicago Sun-Times reported Sunday there were 2,112 fatal overdoses of heroin in Illinois between 2013 and 2015. The newspaper says another 2,935 people statewide died from toxic doses of other drugs.
