3 residents displaced after Naperville house fire

No injuries were reported Friday morning in a small fire that started in the basement of a Naperville house.

Three residents were home at the raised ranch on the 1400 block of Briarwood Drive when one of them called 911 to report the fire about 8:05 a.m. All three were able to escape safely, Bureau Chief Amy Scheller said.

The first firefighters arrived four minutes later and reported seeing smoke from the front of the house. Crews entered with a hose line and found smoke and flames coming from the basement.

Scheller said firefighters had the blaze under control within about 10 minutes. Investigators are looking into the cause.

The house was deemed uninhabitable after it suffered fire damage in the basement and moderate smoke staining to the interior. The residents moved to a nearby family member's house for the day, Scheller said.

No neighboring houses were damaged.

The house is just north of the fire department's headquarters and Station 7 at 1380 Aurora Ave.
