Girls track and field: Kaneland, Rosary win Class 2A sectional titles

The girls track teams from Kaneland and Rosary claimed 2A sectional championships Thursday night, the Knights winning the title at Rochelle and the Royals claiming the crown at LaSalle-Peru.

Kaneland scored 115 points at Rochelle. Rockford Boylan was second at 73.5 and Sterling third with 63.

The Knights won all four relay races and had four individual champions.

Junior Sydney Davidson won the pole vault for the Knights at 10 feet, 1 inch. Also placing first for Kaneland were Nicole Srennan in the 100-meter dash (12.23) and the 400 (56.66) as well as Allie Heinzer in the 200 (25.91).

Other state qualifiers for Kaneland included Lexie Guerra in the pole vault (9-7), Maddie Keifer in the high jump (5-1) and the triple jump (35-0) and Noelle Espino (2:20.71) and Becca Richtman (2:22.65) in the 800.

Burlington Central's Megan Safranski qualified for state in the 3,200, finishing second in 11:34.59.

At LaSalle-Peru, Rosary scored 134 points to run away with the title. Aurora Central Catholic (76) was second and La-Salle Peru third.

Rosary won the 3,200, 400 and 800 relays and finished third in the 1,600.

Danielle Goering won the 100 for the Royals in 13.09 with her teammate Julianne Hutchinson finishing second in 13.23. Hutchinson also took second in the 200 in 26.77.

Other Rosary qualifiers included Kayla Keating in the pole vault (8-0), Claire Hengesbaugh in the 3,200 (12:02.37), Brooke Delhanty in the 800 (2:22.35) and Shea Vero in the 400 (1:00.56).

ACC qualified its 3,200 and 1,600 relay teams as well as Annabelle Englehardt in the high hurdles (17.47), Karina Liz (2:16.63) and Abby Fioresi (2:18.39) in the 800, Liz in the 400 (1st, 58.51), Olivia Sauceda in the low hurdles (1st, 48.25) and Fioresi in the 1,600 (5:19.45).
