Baseball: St. Charles East blanks Elgin

St. Charles East 10, Elgin 0 (6 inn.): A 4-run first inning had the Maroons (6-22, 4-13) down for the count early in this Upstate Eight River win for the Saints (20-8, 15-4). John Carroll had 2 hits and 3 RBI while Anthony Adduci (2B, RBI, BB) and Jim Dale both went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI. Thomas Adams also had 2 hits for East. Pitcher Keegan Kochis threw 43 of his 66 pitches for strikes, punching out 5, walking 2 on 3 hits in 5 innings for the win.

CL South 9, CL Central 5: In the battle of Crystal Lake, the Gators (21-3, 10-3) trailed 5-0 after 4 innings only to storm back with 3 in the fifth and a big, 6-run sixth capped off a big comeback win over the Tigers in Fox Valley Conference crossover action. The big inning started when Michael Humphrey (2 hits) singled with 1 out to score Ethan Weinandy (2 hits, 2B). After a walk and a hit-by-pitch, a wild pitch brought in Nick Van Witzenburg then Kory Olsen (2 hits) scored 2 on his single to put CLS ahead for good. That let starter Tyler Carlson off the hook while Jason DeCicco (1IP, 3H) notched the win.

Geneva 9, Larkin 3: The Vikings (18-10, 14-7) pushed across 8 runs through the first 3 frames and scattered 10 hits to get a UEC River win over the Royals (6-20, 2-16). Geneva's Jack Wassell was 2-for-3 with 2 doubles, a run scored and 4 RBI while Justin Hasegawa had 3 hits and Dylan Baer (2 hits) doubled. AJ Hostman, Jeremy Davis and Vince MacDonald each had 1 RBI to help Bryan Callaly (6IP, 4H, 2ER, 8K, 4BB) pick up the win. Kevin Roberts doubled for Larkin, who collected only 4 hits.

Grayslake Central 9, Dundee-Crown 6: The Rams matched D-C (12-12, 7-6) with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the first and belted out 4 in the second to help get a FVC crossover win. Jonathan Mays (RBI) and Sean Jay (2B) both had 2 hits while Ryan Denz had a double, 2 hits and 3 RBI for the Chargers. Erik Hedmark (2 hits, RBI) also provided some offense while Matt Wiechmann suffered the loss on the bump.

Lockport 3, Aurora Christian 1: The Eagles (22-5-1) offense managed just 1 run on 6 hits in this nonconference loss to the Porters that snapped an 11-game winning streak. Drew Wagner (2B) had 2 hits while Sam Tickle had a walk and 1 RBI. Wagner (4H, 3R, 0ER, 6K, 1BB) tossed 6 innings on 104 pitches and was cruising along with 1 run allowed through four innings until Lockport broke a 1-1 tie on 2 errors in the fifth that scored 2 and broke a 1-1 tie

Elmwood Park 5, St. Edward 2: Jason Allen, Matthew Schimbke (2B, RBI) and Jack Olson each had 2 hits but the Green Wave (4-22, 1-17) couldn't generate anymore offense in a Metro Suburban crossover lost. Pitcher Karl Bibler suffered the loss on the mound giving up 6 hits on 5 runs (3 earned), 2 strikeouts, 3 walks and a HR. St. Edward outhit the Tigers 9-7 but committed 3 errors.

Westmont 10, ACC 2: A modest 2-game win streak for the Chargers (18-10) was snapped in nonconference action. ACC was only allowed 5 hits and Kyle Czerak accounted for 2. The Sentinels made it tough early with 3 in the first and 2 in the second for a 5-run lead and led 7-0 after 4 innings.

Yorkville 4, Kaneland 3 (8 inn.): Jake Marczuk had 3 hits, Will Ring smacked 2 hits and Joe Laudont doubled in a run, but a late rally by the Foxes in the final 2 innings allowed Yorkville to steal this NI Big XII East matchup from the Knights (11-10, 7-4). Yorkville tied the game in the seventh with 2 runs then concluded matters on an RBI single to center by Brendon Reifsteck with 1 down in the eighth. Jacob Violett suffered the loss on the mound in 7-plus innings of work as the Knights lost 2 of 3 in the series.

Mount Carmel 17, Marmion 2: The Cadets (8-20, 3-15) dropped another Chicago Catholic Blue Division loss to the Caravan (19 hits), who exploded 4 in the sixth and 10 in the seventh inning. Bobby Pierce smacked a 2-run homer and Brandon McPherson doubled to account for half of the Cadets' hits.

Rockford Christian 6, Burlington Central 3: A 2-run fifth for the Royal Lions was the difference in this Big Northern East loss for the Rockets (16-9, 10-3), who dropped 2-straight to Rockford Christian. David Lauber (2B) was Central's top hitter with 2 hits and Ryan Knowlton doubled.
