Lightning strikes St. Charles home, causes $150,000 in damage

Lightning struck a St. Charles home and caused about $150,000 damage early Thursday morning, according to a news release from the St. Charles Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived at 907 Fox Chase Court at 1:49 a.m. to find the attic and rear of the house ablaze.

Residents of the home woke up to the overnight storms and decided to check their house, authorities said. They discovered the fire on the second floor and called 911.

The fire was extinguished in 40 minutes, and the house has been deemed uninhabitable.

One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was treated on the scene.

Geneva, Batavia, West Chicago and South Elgin fire departments assisted in fighting the fire.

The Red Cross is working with residents of the home.
