Man critically injured fleeing police, jumping from O'Hare terminal

A 22-year-old Plainfield man was listed in critical condition Wednesday at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with injuries suffered after jumping from an upper-level terminal to a lower-level terminal at O'Hare International Airport while fleeing authorities Tuesday night.

According to Chicago police, Erin Johnson, faces multiple charges stemming from two separate confrontations with Spirit Airlines staff Tuesday.

The first occurred about 11:15 a.m., when he was removed from a Spirit Airlines plane and arrested. Johnson was charged with assault and disorderly conduct on a flight, and later freed after posting bond.

At around 7 p.m., Johnson returned to O'Hare, went to the Spirit Airlines counter and attempted to catch a different flight, police said.

According to police, airline staff told Johnson he was trespassing and needed to leave. Johnson refused and created a disturbance in the terminal, police said. As security attempted to stop him, Johnson fled and jumped from an upper-level terminal to a lower-level terminal.

Johnson is charged with trespassing, resisting arrest, breach of peace and violating a bail bond in connection with the second disturbance, police said.
