Pedestrians must think safety, too

In response to your editorial over the weekend entitled "What's the Rush?" about bikers zipping by pedestrians too fast and too close on bike trails in parks; I would like to point out that part of the problem is the pedestrians that walk down the center lane line taking up half the lane on either side, providing less room for the bicyclist to pass.

If they had kept to the "slower traffic keep right" rule and stayed on the right side of the path, there would be plenty of room for faster moving bicycles to pass in the other lane. That yellow line is not where to put your feet, it is to divide the path into two lanes.

Pedestrians walking two or three abreast are an even greater hazard as they block the whole path. If they walked single file there would be plenty of room for bicyclists to pass.
