Girls soccer: Elgin Academy wins regional opener

The ninth-seeded Elgin Academy girls soccer team advanced to next week's Class 1A Westminster Christian regional semifinal with a 2-0 shutout of No. 8 Schaumburg Christian.

Catherine Palmer and Kalia Higa provided goals while goalkeeper Maddy Williams-Larson collected 4 saves. Awaiting the Hilltoppers will be No. 2 Harvest Christian Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Geneva 3, East Aurora 0: Sydney Gratz, Maddie Parise and Jaden Cielsielski each scored goals in an Upstate Eight Conference crossover win for the Vikings (12-5-1). Jenna Dominguez and Lauren Albrecht notched assists to help snap a 3-game slidewhile goalie Emma Harkleroad recorded her ninth shutout of the season.

Hoffman Estates 4, Dundee-Crown 0: The Chargers (5-11-1) dropped this nonconference game to the Hawks. Taylor Gonio tallied 5 saves for D-C.
