Libertyville water, sewer rates up

Water and sanitary sewer rates in Libertyville increased as of May 1.

The rates over the past several years have increased 3 percent annually, but village officials boosted them temporarily to provide enough money for various operating and capital expenses. The added cost to the average homeowner in the coming year will total $23.50, according to the village.

Water rates will increase 5 percent from 2016 through 2018 and then 3 percent per year thereafter. Sewer rates will increase 20 percent in 2016, 12 percent in 2017 and 2018 and 3 percent thereafter.

The way the bills are calculated also has changed to a fixed fee and a per 1,000 gallon rate charge. Senior discounts are still being offered. For more information, visit www.libertyville.com/rates.
