Softball: Elert hits 4 homers (including grand slam) as Carmel rolls

Amanda Elert had a softball game to remember on Thursday.

The Carmel Catholic senior hit a state-record-tying 4 home runs, including her sixth career grand slam to break her own state record, as the Corsairs beat host Benet Academy 14-5 in East Suburban Catholic Conference action.

Elert finished 4-for-5 with 9 RBI. She hit a two-run homer in the first, a solo shot in the third, a two-run home run in the fourth and her grand slam in the seventh.

Emma Bartz addeda two-run homer for Carmel, while Taylor Ganan was 4-for-4. Claire Petrus allowed 2 earned runs in 6 innings to get the win, striking out eight.

Libertyville 2, Wauconda 1: The Wildcats edged the Bulldogs and ace Kayla Wedl in a North Suburban Conference crossover showdown.

Libertyville (19-6) got another strong effort in the circle from Hannah Heraty, who came within an out of pitching a complete game. Heraty (17-6) allowed 5 hits and 1 walk, and struck out five.

Jessie Lauret, who recorded the final out, was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Jamie Stevens had a double, and Lyndsey Lyon was 2-for-4.

Wedl allowed 6 hits and no earned runs in 7 innings, striking out nine and walking two. She also went 2-for-2 at the plate. Taylor McCarthy was 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs.

Grayslake Central 8, Woodstock North 0: Reagen Radke struck out 17 batters and pitched a 1-hitter, and she also homered in the Fox Valley Fox Division game.

Lindsay Brust was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 runs scored for Grayslake Central. Lexi Waigand homered as well for the Rams, and Morgan Smigielski had a double and an RBI.

Grayslake North 10, Woodstock 0: Dani Runyon scattered 4 hits to go along with 3 strikeouts in the complete-game effort for the Knights in their Fox Valley Fox win.

Jenna Pozezinski, Katie Moats and Keely Napoli each collected 2 RBI. Grace Brown (RBI), Molly Rutkowski and Pozezinski each had multiple hits on the day.

Warren 4, Vernon Hills 3: Claire Swedberg was 4-for-4 with a double and 2 runs scored for the Blue Devils in the North Suburban crossover.

Julienne Egofske homered and drove in 2 runs for Warren.

For Vernon Hills, Danielle Comitor was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk.

Grant 6, Lake Zurich 3: Becca Wold was 3-for-3 with 2 doubles, and Emily Hunt and Erin Bengston (double) added 2 hits apiece for the host Bulldogs in the North Suburban crossover.

Lake Zurich's Amanda Guercio was 4-for-4 with a home run and 2 doubles.

Antioch 8, Zion-Benton 7: Piper Foote's two-run walk-off triple in the bottom of the seventh rallied the Sequoits, who scored 5 runs in the inning.

Antioch got 2 hits apiece from Ashley Stephens, Annie Wagner and Carlie Gaylord.
